N°1 | 2008 THE PUBLIC GARDEN OF CESENA

A green oasis a place of culture.
The Open Air Museum of Italian Cast Iron

With the restoration of the Public Garden, situated in the centre of the city, the Municipality of Cesena has completed a work of great historical and cultural significance.

Created around 1840 near the Municipal Theatre, on terrain received by private bequest, its configuration in concentric circles reflected perfectly the neo-classical taste of the age. In the middle of the following century it was cut in two by a road, irreversibly damaging its physiognomy and setting in motion a process of decay which continued until two years ago, when the Administration decided to restore to the area its original form and prestige, entrusting the reconstruction project to the architect Pier Luigi Cervellati.

The magazine has dedicated particular attention to this event for two reasons. Firstly, the restoration itself, which links Cesena to other interesting Italian experiences illustrated in the introductory essay. Secondly, for the fact that space has been found in the garden for an Open Air Museum of Cast Iron Urban Décor.

This is an extremely important occasion for the Neri Foundation: a number of lamp-posts from its collection have been placed on elegant plinths and exhibited around the imposing gazebo, creating a display which allows them to be appreciated in all their beauty, as well as helping to intensify the magic atmosphere of the garden.
