N°1 | 2013 THE NORTH ITALIAN FOUNDRIES

The birth of the iron and steel industry in Northern Italy

Arredo & Città is changing its appearance. It’s being overhauled and taking on a guise that’s more in keeping with the editorial choices we’re making. After a lot of hesitation we’ve managed to make the big leap from printed page to digital format.

It hasn’t been easy, because traditionally this is a magazine that takes great care in its choice of images, making it delightful to pick up and leaf through.  Paradoxically, we’re turning the page by finishing off a task that we’ve been doing for quite a while. The North Italian Foundries is the third chapter in a research project on all the foundries that have operated in Italy in the sector of manufacturing artistic elements for lighting and urban furnishing, and that no longer exist today. The previous chapters related to the Tuscan Foundries (n° 1, 2004) and the factories in the south (Made in Southern Italy, n° 1, 2007).

As one might easily imagine, for entrepreneurs of the times to succeed in business, beauty was a fundamental element that went hand-in-hand with aspiring to maximum functionality and long-lasting construction.
