The first part of the issue describes the restoration work done on four cast iron candelabra, which have stood in the square in front of the La Scala Theatre, Milan, since 1919, according to a project by Luca Beltrami. The restoration, painstaking and particularly complex at certain stages, is a significant example of what can be achieved by restoring these artefacts.
The subsequent pages feature restoration and innovative projects with a view to keeping the debate open on the relationship of cities with their history; on design, whether classic or modern, and their possible interaction.
