N°1 | 2001 THE ROOTS OF BEAUTY IN UTILITY
How the Renaissance repertoire inspired the 19th century industrial art
The Italian Museum of Cast Iron is once again the focus of our attention. The images, which starting from the cover give a “new look” for the new millennium, illustrate a few pieces from the collection. Similarly, the text by Claudia Collina shows how in the second half of the nineteenth century all experience (whether architecture, urban décor or ornamental detail) took inspiration from the Renaissance repertoire.
The style in which cast iron artefacts were made is almost entirely drawn from pre-existing models. As an expression of culture, industrial art is an “asset” worthy of being preserved and known to all. Hence the Museum inventory in article “Museums in Emilia-Romagna”.
