QUALITY AND DURABILITY OF URBAN DÉCOR

QUALITY CONQUERS TIME
Equal Dedication to industrial production and restoring the heritage of city decor

The quality of the protection (painting) accorded to cast iron items is an added value in which it is worthwhile investing since it is in inverse proportion to the quantity of maintenance operations needed. The subject of the maintenance of urban décor – of its absolute necessity in spite of the difficulties it creates for public bodies – has been raised more than once by this magazine. There need be no surprise, then, if a single monographic issue combines two apparently separate questions: painting and restoration. The recovery of historical items, carried out by processes that vary from case to case according to the state of conservation of each article, is completed by the final painting phase. This is a high technology process, strongly characterized both by the choice of painting product and by the manner of its application. This process therefore applies equally to restored historical products and to those of today.
We therefore draw attention to two aspects that are particularly significant for both these subjects, and which are given ample space in the magazine. With regard to painting, technology also means taking care to achieve reduced environmental impact. Restoration is an operation of immeasurable value when it involves, as in the cases discussed, rescuing, and therefore returning to the community (with present-day technological features), items of great historical value, a value to which the scrupulously conserved cast iron form pays testimony.
